Academics and Athletics

Balancing Schoolwork and Athletics

Being on a varsity team or any other team that has multiple practices a week can be a burden on your academics. It's tough to find time to study when you have two games a week and practice on the days in-between. Finding the right balance between academics and athletics to help you perform at your best in the classroom and on the field is crucial. Here are some tips on how to achieve this goal:

  • Time Management = Write down your daily schedule and block off some hours during the day to study (after practice, before class, before you go to bed)
  • Sleep = Make sure you get as much sleep as you can. Naps can be a lifesaver. Sleep gives you the energy to balance academics and athletics and can relieve built up stress.
  • Commitment = School before athletics. As much as you love your sport, you are in college to earn a degree. Make sure you have your priorities straight.
