New to Wilmington?

If you are new to the area, or just feel you could be getting more from your time in the town of Wilmington this article is for you. Being a native to this great town I will walk you through a few "must do's" of the Area. New Hanover County, has a few staples everyone knows about such as Wrightsville Beach, the USS North Carolina Battleship, and Screen Gem Movie Studios. However, after living in this town over twenty-four years I have discovered some activites off the beaten path that illustrate the area's magestic charm.

If you are reading this one of your main reasons for moving here was probably the beach so, although a little cliché, Wrightsville Beach, is where you must start your day. Wake up extra early one warm morning before sunrise and first stop into the local cafe on the beach, Cafe Del Mar, for a cup of your favorite blend. Then from there walk a block east to the beach for the sunrise. From experience, nothing makes the sunrise over the ocean anymore special than being in the ocean when the sun breaks over the horizion, its almost spiritual. After taking it in, next go for a walk down summer rest trail, which is right across the bridge from Wrightsville. After a swim and walk you've got to be starving and one of the only places to get a great southern breakfast is the orginal, Salt-Works, off Oleander. While breakfast is digesting ride over to Airle Gardens, for a slow stroll amoung the century old live oaks, and marsh land; Learn, and appericiate the work of, Minnie Evans, along with the bottle house built in her memory. You may want to take a nap in the beautiful grass, under those mossy oaks, but once you've seen all that there is hop back in the car for a short drive down MLK Parkway west to historic down town, where you'll end up spending hours curiously wandering the historic cobble stone streets in serach of local arts, and treats. One place you must stop into is the, Old Books, bookstore on Front Street; After you enter the store you will understand why you were sent there. Then take a walk on the river front and once you've it all, head in the car up Market Street north for tthe best burger in town at, Goody Goody Omlet House, but don't forget cash.

After that activity filled morning you'll probably be worn out and might want to reside to the house for a nap and shower, but rest up. You still have to experience the nightlife of the beach, which is filled with beautiful people, laughter, and cheap drinks.

If you take on this day, you will most defineity fall asleep with a smile on your face, and if nothing more have experienced a few staples of the Cape Fear area.
